HŽ Infrastruktura chose an Austrian company Swietelsky as a contractor to modernize and electrify the Zaprešić – Zabok line. The works are worth a total of Kn 614.4 million, 85% of which will come from the EU funds.

This part of the line is 24 kilometers long, and once the works are done, the travel time for fast trains will be reduced by half, and those of regular passenger trains by 30%. It will also become possible to include this line into the Zagreb suburban transport node. The works are scheduled to begin this summer and be completed three years later.

The line stretches through two counties, Zagreb and Krapina-Zagorje. The works should enable the speed to be increased to 120 km/h. Six kilometers of line will change completely, and stations in Novi Dvori, Luka, Veliko Trgovišće and Zabok will also be reconstructed. This is supposed to include new terminals, splitting the Zabok station into cargo and passenger terminals, and some new buildings. Minor stops in Pojatno, Kupljenovo and Žeinci will also get new tracks, covers and parking, and a new video surveillance system. In addition, 15 crossings will receive new synthetic flooring, four will be diverted to new crossings, and one will be closed altogether. Finally, the contract includes five new bridges in Vučerna, Lužki Potok, Črnec and two in Horvacka.
